V-Wing
A downloadable game
(English below)
Tätä kirjoittaessani V-Wingin julkaisusta on aika tarkalleen 30 vuotta.

At the time of writing, it has been almost exactly 30 years since V-Wing was released. In 1995 and 1996, it was distributed as shareware. Registration was handled by mailing a physical letter with money enclosed, and the game arrived by return mail on a floppy disk.
For me, developing V-Wing was a learning experience in programming, but also a source of countless hours of fun playtesting with a group of friends. (Thank you to the whole group for all those hours, and especially to Kalle Ojala, who also drew several of the levels, polished the language, wrote the documentation, and did a great deal more.)
The game was naturally inspired by earlier cave-flying games, perhaps most of all Turboraketti and AUTS. I hope V-Wing brought a few new ideas to the genre, largely because the development process consisted mostly of random “I wonder if I could add a feature like this?” moments, without much of an overall plan.
Two versions of the game were released at the time, versions 1.91 and 1.95. The version accompanied by this text was developed somewhat further than the last publicly released version. It remained unpublished, largely because the idea for a new game mode was left somewhat unfinished. This version contains everything released at the time, along with a few new things that those who remember the game may notice.
With this release, V-Wing is finally being made freely available and free to share. It has been wonderful to discover over the years that, every now and then, someone still remembers it. The fact that this project brought joy to people beyond my own circle of friends continues to warm my heart and make me happy, even decades later.

Install instructions
As this game is from 90's MS-DOS game, it will require something like dosbox to run in modern systems. Gravis Ultrasound emulation needed for sounds. Other than that, just unzip and run the .exe
